Read the fine print on the service plan agreement, some are quite deceptive. Strive for a plan with free texting and Pic mailing if you use them, At .10 per text they can add up fast. free incoming calls is also a great feature. Make and model vary so widely I cant advise you.. I have a Motorola L6 and like it. but I hate flip phones

I'd say coverage and making sure you get the right amount of minutes so you don't get big charges later on.
