  • lots of jelly and ice cream
  • Ha! Whoever says that you can have ice cream after you get your tonsils out has never experienced it themselves!! I had my tonsils and adenoids removed when I was around 9. After surgery I could barely let ice chips melt in my mouth and run down my throat. My throat was swollen and it hurt to swallow anything. Imagine having strep throat, tonsillitis, laryngitis, a sinus infection, and a strained voice box all at once. I couldn't talk for an entire week and when my voice came back it was deeper than before. Everyone experiences pain differently and heals at a different rate- also I may have had more pain since I had my adenoids out as well. But check to see, they may want to remove those as well, since strep throat and tonsillitis can move to them and they're located further back in the throat; therefore making them more difficult to treat.
  • A LOT of pain, but it won't last long. I had my tonsils removed at 21. i spent a night in the hospital thanking God for whatever narcotic they gave me. Within a week, though, I was pretty much back to normal. The upside is that you'll be much less prone to throat ailments after the procedure. Also, depending on how you take anesthesia, you may experience nausea and vomiting directly after the procedure.
