The US has a GDP of over $13 trillion, and we collect almost $2 trillion a year in taxes. $16 billion dollars does not even cover the cost of educating the children of illegal immigrants. There are other considerations as well. For example, illegal immigrants are taking jobs from legal Americans. This means that some Americans will go unemployed, and as a result will not pay taxes and may need to take advantage of welfare programs. So think about this. If an illegal immigrant family pays $4200 a year in taxes, and as a result a legal American is unemployed and receiving $8000 a year in welfare benefits, the net result is that the illegal family is nowhere close to paying there fair share.
