This is a great question because it enables me to refer to a major Wall Street Journal article from several years back that said if you keep your medicine in a cool dry place you can mostly ignore the so-called expiry date. The only thing that date means is that it has been tested and found good. It does NOT mean that after that it will turn bad. Exceptions to this rule: Don't use old antibiotics without talking to a doctor; and if you've mixed a powder with water and shaken it up to drink, the leftover stuff may be spoiled and ineffective--which does NOT necessarily mean "dangerous." Of course drug companies wouldn't mind if you throw out your old medicine and buy new, and if you keep medicine in the bathroom where several people take hot showers every day some may absorb moisture and lose potency. Almost everything else you've heard about this subject is an urban legend.
