No. Its a game. A rocking game that was way better when it was sidescoll in my opinion, but none the less a game.

I have yet to see an italian half an inch tall, dressed entirely in green/red with a weird hat, a giant moustache, jumping on strange animals and headbutting walls to save a princess taller and more able bodied then themselves. Now Mussolini, there is a negative stereotype if you have to have one. Dictator vs strange hero midget....

Mario rules! But no; they are computer game characters and to be honest, and it might sound silly, the Italian connection has never really crossed my mind
