My xbox needs a new hard drive is it worth paing 80 dollars to get it fixed or should i upgrade to the xbox 360?

I'd go with a PS3 or PS2 if money is an issue. You can get a ps2 for around 120$. Microsoft had virtually dropped the XBOX. They don't have NEARLY the support for it as Sony still does with the PS2. With games like God of War, Guitar hero 2, and Okami... it's the best option.

It is definitely time to upgrade to an Xbox 360. The much bigger hard drive is just one of the plethora of superior features it has. You will thank yourself in the long-run, when your console is recieving all the attention. Sticking with the old Xbox is pointless, because as the previous person said, Microsoft have basically disowned it.

360 rocks man... graphics are better and it'll work with hi-def.

I would upgrade to the 360. Most of the games should be compatible and the difference in graphics and sound is remarkable.
