Gandalf, but only because we know a lot more about him. He appears to be one of the Valar. Dumbledore hasn't risen from the dead yet, either, but Gandalf has. They're both wonderful characters, though.

I read all three books and saw the thillogy. Who's Dumb.ledore. Gandolf the Grey advanced to Gandolf the twhile after fighting the Balrog from which the first movie ended. He is all powerful all knowing and by far the most profound character of the trillogy. He has time and recognition to his credit. An old-schooler like me don't take so well to these new ad-lib write-ons. Gandalf by a margin of 100 to 1.

That is really difficult. I love both of them so much. What I wouldn't do just to be able to hug Gandalf or Dumblebore. I think I would have to say Gandalf is greater. He is just so awesome. That is my reason. lol :)

Gandalf - he had a mean streak. Dumbledore was too much of a cardboard cut-out wise old man, while Gandalf had a sense of immediacy and urgency that the whole of Middle Earth benefited from.

I don't think I could pick one as a greater character. I think they are both well rounded and interesting creations.

I'm going to have to say Dumbledore. The only reason I chose him is because I have a slightly greater emotional and mental attachment to him, from years of reading and re-reading the Harry Potter books. I'm not sure I have ever loved another character from a book as much as I love him, except for Sirius Black. Dumbledore's kindness, intelligence, dignity, humour and love were all such wonderful attributes.

I'm a huge fan of both series, but for me it's Ganalf hands down.
