All but one in my family are my best friends.
-
Yes I would. They are not perfect and they do things that irritate the heck out of me, but when it comes right down to it, every one of my siblings are there for me if I need them (well, except the bi-polar brother, he hates everyone). There is no way I would choose different children either, 'cause they are perfect, since I raised them, lol.

My children no - My parents and sisters yes I would change them

I love my family. I wouldn't choose anyone but them, even if given the chance. I suppose I've been lucky.

i did choose my family. i'm adopted and i now call my birth family my "family."

I think this is one of those situations where, to use a cliche, "the grass is always greener on the other side". My family can be very annoying and I struggle to deal with them at times, especially my mother, but that level of proximity to people will inevitably lay bare all their faults to you. Everybody else I might choose as my family would also have faults, albeit different ones, and I would clash with them in some ways on some occasions as well, so on balance I would say (warning, 2nd cliche coming up!) "better the devil you know". Picking and choosing family members, apart from partners, would just be like playing a sweepstake, so I would stick with the hand I've been dealt. It's not too bad on the whole.

Good evening I will look at why it is a good thing that you can choose your friends but can’t choose your family. My first point is that, and I’m sure most of you would agree with me, if you were allowed to choose your family you would choose someone rich and famous so that you can be spoilt beyond imagination. But it is your parents that make you who you are, the way they bring you up, the place they send you to school. My second point is that it is biologically impossible. You will always be connected to you family at least one way. After all blood is thicker than water. Families are our means of support. We don't always agree with them but that doesn't matter because no matter what happens when we wake up in the morning they’re still family. Its your family that are there for you in times of trouble, when you need help or simply when you need a laugh!! They are not perfect and they do things that irritate the heck out of you, but when it comes right down to it, every one in your family are there for you if you need them, and are more than willing to help. You can choose parts of your family... sure, you can't change your parents and siblings and cousins, but when you go off to start your own family, the choice is completely yours. Regardless, family is more important than friends could ever be so you shouldn’t be allowed to choose them. There's a far stronger connection between kin and when push comes to shove family will always be there, but friends come and go. Yeah sure Friends are great for socialising but family is there no matter what. I think this is one of those situations where, to use a cliché, "the grass is always greener on the other side". My family can be very annoying and I struggle to deal with them at times, but that level of proximity to people will inevitably lay bare all their faults to you. Everybody else I might choose as my family would also have faults, albeit different ones, and I would clash with them in some ways on some occasions as well, so on balance I would say (warning, 2nd cliché coming up!) for sure, couldn't live without my family :)
-
Not just no but h**l no!!! (Except for my kids.)

I love my parents and my husband and children, but all of our siblings and in - laws and nieces and nephews could take a hike and it would make our life easier.

It's a paradox! You can't choose your mom or dad because they will make whoopie and then the stork brings you. :-D So it's a Chicken and egg question! I wouldn't have wanted to change 'em anyway!

in the words of Donald Trump, "I have the best family, the most wonderful family. I wouldn't trade my family for all the money in the world. People often come up to me and want to BUY my family from me!"

Honestly, I don't have a lot in common (besides blood) with most of my family and if I just met them casually somewhere, I probably wouldn't be interested in keeping touch. That said, they've been good to me and I wouldn't change my family if I had a choice (however I would ADD my friends to my family if I could, I pretty much have anyways, but if I could make it official, I'd like to have my best buddies be my four brothers)
