One of the commonest fuels is Kero/LOX: kerosene and Liquid Oxygen. The Shuttle uses this for its main engines, but the boosters strapped on the side uses solid rockets - essentially giant fireworks. Spaceship One, the winner of the Ansari X-Prize, used butyl rubber and LOX. Small manoeuvring engines often use aniline/nitric acid, which is self igniting.
