  • When trying to reduce weight remember this. Muscle weighs heavier than fat. So....you may be losing fat but building muscle....To test this theory, instead of weighing yourself, take measurements of chest, biceps, thighs, waste and hips. These will trim down as you get into shape. Also, don't stop eating. Instead of starving yourself, eat 3 balanced meals a day and two healthy snacks. Drink plenty of water, a minimum of 1 litre (or quart) a day. No eating within 4 hours of bed time and if you do, let it be fruit or celery or something healthy. Eat most of your carbohydrates ie: breads, starches, cereals, grains, etc in the morning to early afternoon and limit your heavy carbs and proteins at suppertime, eat more veggies less potatoes for instance. Hope this helps. This is it in brief believe it or not....lol.
  • Weight training builds muscle which weighs more than fat. I think it's better to gauge your progress more on how you feel and how your clothes fit than just weight.
  • First, your weight is simply a function of your calories burned vs. your calories consumed. Going to the gym does not necessarily burn many calories. Weight training for example build strength but burns few calories. Heavy aerobic activity (running, swimming, strenuous cycling) burn more calories. Second, reducing your portions is good but it can depend on what you eat. Fat has twice the calories per oz as carbs or protein. I suggest you try counting your exercise and food intake on a good website like fitday.com. I've found it helpful and it's free. Good luck
  • Far too many people are only concerned with the number of pounds (or kilograms) on the scale. Be more concerned with what percentage of your body is fat cells, bones, blood, muscle mass, etc. As you exercise and diet, you will be changing the various percentages. It is actually common to gain weight early on in a new exercise regimen as bone mass and muscle mass go up faster than fat cells go down, so you can loose inches, loose fat and yet still gain weight. Keep at it and look back after decades, not weeks ...
  • Concentrate on how your clothes fit. At first the weight loss will not show because you are converting fat weight to muscle weight. This is a GOOD thing. The muscle will help raise your metabolism and keep you going. Hang in there!!
