Is it more appropriate to write a letter of resignation or to talk to your boss in person? Should I talk to Human Resources first, last or at all?

Your Boss then HR. They (HR) will proably make you write a letter of resignation for their records.

it all depends. Are you quitting for a better job? or do you really want to stay and just improve a crappy situation? Or are you trying to leverage a new position to get your self a better position at your current job. Obviously each of those reasons has differnt ways to deal wih it

I would write a resignation letter and present it in person to your immediate boss and you can also copy HR on it. But do give it to your immediate boss in person and explain in order to leave in good terms.
