I wouldn't really know, I hate coffee
-
I usually go to the Mello Joy or CC's coffee houses, myself; but, I can't say that Starbucks is over rated- just over priced.
-
It's just coffee
-
Me!!!! They never ever get the darn order right. I only go to Dunkin Donuts now. They hardly ever fail me, and when they do, they fix it, unlike snooty tooty Starbucks.
-
I haven't had a coffee there for over a year.I stay away from those places like the plaque. There coffee is way too strong and bitter to me.
-
Would you believe I have NEVER been in one? Even though there are plenty of them in Sydney, Australia, I don't drink much coffee, so have not set food inside one. I have had a cappuccino at a Gloria Jeans, and that was nice, but no nicer than a cappuccino any other place.

Overrated, overhyped overpriced, and over here! The coffee's always a bit weak for me, and tends towards bitter if I ramp up the strength. Plus their milk doesn't seem very creamy - I love cream - not creamer - in my joe. Good job I've a drip-filter machine.... and a cafetiere.... although I don't have cheesecake at home very often either (now that IS overpriced).
-
No one I know that goes there can answer the simple question "why?" Maybe they just slipped something in their coffee to cause millions of people to become addicted and pay ridiculous amounts of money for coffee that doesn't even taste good. Whatever they have done though, its working, because it seems everyday they take over another part of the world.

You've got that right on the money - YES

Overrated? Hmmm...I don't know. I like Starbucks coffee and it annoys me when people say their coffee is bad. I've had coffee from many different places and Starbucks' coffee is exceptional (buy coffee from them and then make it yourself...compare.). Unfortunately, sometimes they hire people that don't know what they are doing and if you get coffee from someone who doesn't know how to make it, of course it's going to be bad; it's exceptionally easy to make bad coffee/espresso. I like the coffeehouse feel that Starbucks has incorporated; Howard Schultz is a genius. I just think that it is too bad that some Starbucks locations are overrun by Chai-latte drinking, Birkenstock-wearing, long-haired nutjobs who ruin the experience for some and stereotype the entire Starbucks market. These people are in Starbucks, not because they like the coffee, but for other ridiculous reasons...very annoying. In conclusion (haha), some locations suck, but it's not because of the coffee, it's because of the people. Find a location with a good barista and make sure nobody is wearing sandals in the winter; that's the place to be.

I think it is majorly overpriced ($4 for a grande mocha? I think not), but on the whole I like it. I will grant that I only go there once or twice every couple months, simply because it IS so expensive and I don't crave it too frequently, but I'm not a big coffee drinker to begin with. I don't think it's overrated though, if you get your beverage from someone who knows what the heck they're doing behind the counter, they actually have really good stuff. Also, they're generally a good company to work for. They're fair to their employees and pay well. My sister worked at a Starbucks in a small town in eastern CA and was making almost 10 bucks an hour just as a barista, plus tips. At one point, the company had a promotion selling some sort of coffee machines that went MUCH better than they had expected it to, so they actually went around giving their employees (not just management, either) $0.25-$1.00 raises, depending on their experience. I wish *my* old company had done that when we did well, lol! PS-If you ever get anything that has espresso shots in it that tastes bitter, send it back and tell them to pull you new shots. When they pull an espresso shot, it literally expires and gets bitter in a matter of SECONDS. Often the quality of a drink can be totally ruined if the barista isn't quick enough getting the shots into your drink. So if it's bitter, that's most likely why :)

Well, I've had coffee all over the world, and I really like the coffee in Europe. In the U.S. though, I would say Starbuck's has decent coffee, but not great. That brings me to a question: Does anyone know where I can get great European style coffee here in the U.S.? I think Starbucks has gone too far when they opened a store in Beijin's Forbidden City. Talk about invasion of a history of long rich culture.

To me, their coffee tastes burned. There is a difference between roasted and burned. Very Overrated indeed !!
-
Yes yes, spend 40 bucks get your own coffee maker and grinder, buy whole beans grind them yourself, and make your own. Not only will your home smell wonderfully but it tastes better and is still cheaper! I love to add cinnamon and fat free whipped cream to mine and drink it in bed with my boyfriend..... Convenince factor McDonalds is better and cheaper~!
-
I don't like their regular coffee (way too strong for me) but I love the frappacinos. I've tried to make them at home, but I just can't get it right.
-
very much so.
-
Their coffee tastes like dirt to me. I know what a good cup of coffee tastes like, and Starbucks isn't it. I think it is probably the roast, because I have tasted it all across the country and it always tastes the same. I have even passed them by and bought gas station coffee to avoid the dirt flavor.

Very overrated. They sometimes make decent coffee but most of it is all hype and salesmanship. One of the things that bothers me about them is that they ask so much for their beverages and beans but they do not honestly participate in Fair Trade Coffee. They claim that they do but there is evidence that they don't. I think I wouldn't mind paying more if I knew the small coffee growers were being paid a fair wage. I rather buy coffee from local coffee places that are in the Fair Trade Coffee program or from online sources that are.
-
It is. It's not great it's just convenient.
-
What, you don’t like paying $3.50 for a cup of coffee?
-
me. I don't know about the coffee but the drinks are a million times too sugary for me and everything costs at least a fiver. the furniture is quite comfy though....
-
I do! I do!
-
Hmmm...a cup of coffee in a local diner - 82 cents. A venti latte non-fat frappa-whatever, same coffee bean - $4. You tell me.
-
everything from cd's,to the diffrent newspapers, really it's kind of sad how they exploit these lost people with all that beatnik stuff. It's not so new they just put alot of money into it.
-
Well, there is one on the block I live on, and I don't view it as special at all.
-
Overrated...yes, but still yummy!
-
Oh yeah! The professor should use that concoction to power the time machine.
-
I like Starbucks. It is over rated (I nearly cried after I bit into my banana bran muffin once, they're gross), and they're ridiculously over priced, but I like the atmosphere.
-
Yes I do. They are so overpriced to! I'm not much of a coffee lover, but I know when I'm getting ripped off.
-
Deleted. Meant as a comment.
