In the state I live, my high school aged son didnt either. I can't understand it myself. When I was a kid, the amount of books we carried could weigh down a pack mule. I asked my son about it and he said they didnt have enough to go around.

I think it's sad they don't have a better system in my children's school. My kids have such simple homework, and it's been the same ever since the beginning of the school year. It doe not make sense. My son is in 4th grade and does not bring home any kind of math book or history book. He brings home a 3 page work packet. It has a place for him to write a paragraph; a list of activities to do pertaining to his spelling words; a check off area for when he practices math at home and a crossword puzzle for his spelling words; and some other lesson; and a place to write the name of the book he read-date-and a little sentence about the character. My daughter brings a paper home every Wednesday that has a list of activities for her 5 spelling words. She has to read for 20min a day, and practice a little math. When I was in those grades growing up, I had books in my backpack.
