Transgender is where your mental gender is different to your genitalia. Homosexual is where you are fully aware of your gender but are attracted to the same sex.

Transgender is a very complex subject. A transgender may refer to themself as homosexual,heterosexual,bi,queer.A transgender person will have physical characteristics that are associated with the opposite gender. Many wish to change their bodies with the aid of medical treatment. They may choose to label themselves as heterosexual, when eg a man transitions to a womans body, and dates another man. I'm a lesbian, by that I am sexually and EMOTIONALLY attracted to OTHER LESBIANS (and one in particular for the past 7 years and hopefully till the end of time!). Prior to our meeting there was a Transgendered (woman to man) who was attracted to me. He had started life as a female but felt and believed he SHOULD HAVE BEEN MALE. Prior to accepting himself as a Transgendered person, SHE tried to live as a lesbian. That didn't work either, although He/She remained attracted to females in both aspects of life. We liked each other fine, and he liked me more than fine. But I could not be attracted to HIM, because I am a Lesbian. I like being a woman and I like other lesbian women. Straight women don't "turn me on" any more than a Man would, or a woman who believes she IS or should have been A Man. For most lesbians it's not just about sex, there is also a deep emotional bond that transcends a simple sexual attraction. Some women who consider themselves to be lesbians don't even actively pursue having an active sex life, or what I would consider to be even a normal sex life. They sometimes have other issues that preclude them desiring to be sexual. To me, being sexual with my partner is not the whole of our relationship, but it IS the physical manifestation of our love, our trust, our joyful expression of the things we feel for each other.

The difference is the difference between gender and sexuality. Your gender encompasses alot more of your life than just your sexuality. Most homosexuals have no gender identity problems, whereas most transgenders are oriented to the opposite of their chosen gender. Whereas homesexuality has alot of research that indicates it may be a natural phenomenon, trangenderism is most likely to be a anomoly, where the gender of the brain did not develop in line with the gender of the body.

They have absolutely nothing to do with one another. It drives me crazy that they always get lumped together. It's like, Blond and Transgender. You can be blond, you can be transgender, or you can be both. Transgender is the feeling/knowledge that you have been born into a gender which does not feel right to you. There is no similarity. Homosexualality is your sexual orientation. You have a sexual preference for people of the same sex. Transgender is a mental and physical condition. The person is born with the mentality of one sex and the body and sexual organs of the opposite sex. This is a condition that with a lot of courage, psychiatric help hormones and surgery can be rectified. All those that are brave enough to take this step deserve all the happiness that they can get out of life.

I am mtf transsexual so I identify as a female and I go for the girls. Technically that would make me a lesbian. But, being trans has nothing to do with your orientation. As a matter of fact, most mtf's that I know and have spoken with, like the girls as well.
