  • The answer is that back in the day when the thought of a "higher power" was created, was a time of extreme sexism. Men thought that even Women's SOULS were less than that of men. People today are just to lazy to change the way things are. As for me, whenever I refer to God, I say "It" because that's what "he" is.
  • The bible refers him to masculine. It doesn't annoy me at all. He is the son God from my point of view and other Christians, making him a male.
  • It kind of annoys me that people feel the need to refer to God at all. Faith should be a private matter, like sexual preference or drug of choice.
  • Why? Because God's gender (the Biblical one anyway) is the artificial construct of chauvinistice tribal elders whose agenda was to ensure the priviledge of male dominance is secure and unquestionable for them and their descendents. These people penned the books that have now become the Bible. Christianity merely inherited this concept from Judaism.
  • Doesn't have to, but it is rather uncommon to not refer to god as a male. There are some feminist groups, but I think it may just make more sense since he put a baby in a virgin's womb, and a woman getting a woman pregnant just doesn't seem right!
  • God is referred to as He simply because He is a He. God is referred to (by Himself, not just others) as Father. There is no way around the fact that God is a He. To say anything else would be making God a liar, which is impossible given He is perfect. I hope that this was helpful. To comment on a question that you answered before concerning does God choose us or do we choose Him, I agree that people who feel they are indivually "chosen" are dangerous. However I disgaree that your mind is made up from the start. The Bible tells us that the Holy Spirit of God is at work convincting the world. This in turn has the potential to change lives if the person then CHOOSES to respond. It is only faith that it is required.
