I started playing guitar when I saw a friend of mine play "Smells Like Teen Spirit" on an old acoustic. I ws immediately infatuated. I learned the riff right then, although not surprisingly it took about thirty minutes and my fingers were very uncomfortable from playing the power chords. When I started learning more songs, my enthusiasm continued increasing, even as I would stumble with passages and curse at my fingers for not moving gracefully. Nevertheless, with practice it just became easier. After a while I knew ten songs (actually, bits of songs) and thought myself a guitar hero. Little did I know that the learning and enthusiasm never stops.

I was about 7 when I start playing piano... I had a teacher that was strict... But what really kept me going was finding inspiration -artists and music that really get me reaching for that next step.

Persistence and enthusiasm. Love the instrument you play and be stubborn enough to not accept failure. Even if you don't have a natural talent it's possible to play very very well, if you keep at it! Just by the way, my son struggled with the guitar and we bought a strumstick for him. They're designed by the guy who designed the traveller guitar for the famous Martin brand. The strumstick comes in three different keys each one allowing a range of chords to be played. It's impossible to play it badly and gives you results from the first day. I would heartily recommend it for confidence building. I now get it out at parties and musicians love it because of its gorgeous drone/banjo sound. They've even got an electric version now. It really does rock. http://www.strumstick.com
