  • Conditioner! Let it sit and sink in then carefully comb. You want to make your hair soft and silky to untangle it. You could also try mayo, olive oil, or eggs (either alone or mix them together) but being that your hair is a mess I wouldn't recommend it until you get it combed out. But use it after to keep your hair soft. And next time try brushing your hair more than once every few weeks. Duh!
  • --Eww. SOAK your hair in olive oil and then get a wide tooth comb. They really do help. And once your hair is matt free, brush it in the morning and at night right before your go to bed. Good Luck!
  • How on earth did you let it get in that state!?!?!?! If it's just that you have thick hair and slept with it with lots of hair spray and stuff etc (I did that the night after prom) Then soak it in warm water for about 15 mins, then coat it (i mean, like half a bottles worth) with conditioner and leave that in for about half an hour - one hour. apply some more and start combing FROM THE BOTTOM. Start using only very very small bits from the end, it would be much much easier to get someone else to do it for you.
  • If your hair is long you may have to cut it. It's really hard to comb out knots from the the bottom up with long hair, even with bottled or homemade conditioners. If your hair is shorter conditioning should work. Just be gentle because hair is easier to break when wet. Best of Luck!!
  • you can also use coconut oil and heat it. it should help
  • Where you raised by wolves? How in the world could something like this happen? It's a year or so later, by now I would imagine you would have fixed your matted hair situation. I think the olive oil soak was probably the best idea.
  • My har does the same thing as i have course and alot of new growth. What i do is before i wash my hair i braid it in corn rows while it is dirty, then wash it with the braids in my hair. Running my fingers gently through the scalp. Next i let the braids air dry and put a conditioner, water, and olive oil mixture and spray on base of braids. Let airdry overnight and sleep in a satin scarf to hold moisture. S curl activator spray is also good for softening roots as it conatins glycerine water and B5 vitamins. after you leave this on the hair overnight, then unbraid hair in morning and style as usual. You will have vrey very soft hair that you will wonder if it is the same head of hair on your head. Hope this works, because it does for me and i have the same problem.
  • You may have to get your hair thinned. If it is too thick, it will mat down like that. I should do the same to mine, too, before I start getting sores on my scalp.
  • NO NO NO !!! My entire head of butt long hair is matted to my scalp as well. Let me tell you from PERSONAL EXPERIENCE that there isn't a home remedy that would work its a waste of time and money. I have tried everything from olive oil to eggs mayonase 40 dollar conditioners wide tooth comb everything that anybody ever suggested and not a SINGLE one worked. Do not listen to anyone telling you to cut your hair are they in the same shoes as you anyhow ? Heck no ! I am going to get the takedown product and call tangeled hair techs look up online) they are a last resort instead of cutting it off. God bless you
  • Use a cream rinse. Leave it in for a while before you rinse it out. That will soften your hair and loosen it also.
  • Some of my friends who had dreads told me the put baby oil in their hair and then slowly combed starting at the tips and moving inwards til they reached the scalp. You hair will be oily afterwards, but it sounds like that's the least of your problems if it's matted to your head. Oh yeah, it will be easier to brush when wet too. Have you considered shaving your head?
  • wow. first start off by running bath water. put your head completely down into the water. wave your head back and forth and the hair will naturally un "mat" ...get out add baby oil to your hair...it will slick it up. start by running your hands through it. Then slowly pull pieces apart from the bottom, and "twist" them...they will naturally untangle. start at the bottom...and comb out with a brissle comb (one of the soft ones...) Get back into the bathtub after you do this awhile...and do the same thing with your head (back and forth) ... the baby oil will help them seperate in the water also. Get back out, and work on brushing them out again...use a different brush now (like a plastic one or something)...just keep repeating...and then if you have some, buy some detangler...once you really get it outa, then it should just keep getting less and less tangled. Good luck...how did this happen?
  • How the hell did you manage that??? My hair gets tangled because its so damn curly, but not matted.
  • My daughters hair is really matted to the scalp..if i cut it willl be posh spice short or kate gosselin short...trieed baby oil not working...any advice plz help....
  • What? Wash it for goodness sake.
  • Please do not CUT your hair. There is this product called the Take Down Remover Cream. It detangles very tangled or matted hair and it also takes out dreadlocks. check out the blog that uses the products at www.tangledhairtechs.blogspot.com. You can really save your hair at home.
  • How????My hair is very curley it doesnt matt i brush it through with conditioner in the bath. If its that bad rub olive oil through it let it rest for 5 mins then wash it and comb it
  • My dog Butch had hair like that. Only, he was long haired and had never had his hair brushed, and it bacame matted after about eleven years. How did your hair get like that?
  • The question remains - how does something like this happen? I've seen it happen with patient's in the hospital who don't wash or brush their hair for weeks or even months at a time.. and they refuse to let anyone else do so (which is their right, even if it doesn't make any sense to most). But they are also very medicated and not in the best place mentally. Other than that, I've never seen hair matted to the head - what happened?
