What is a "coupler" on a train, and how does it work?

    A coupler is the mechanism by which two cars are connected or coupled. Continuing advancements in technology have changed how it is controlled but the basic concept is still the same. There are 2 interlocking "C" shaped "hitches" that clamp together when coupled.
