Taking its name from Robert Marsham, 2nd Baron Romney, Rumney was originally granted in 1761 to settlers from Colchester, ConnecticutColchester and East Haddam, Connecticut. Because some grantees failed to comply with the charter, the town was regranted to another group of settlers in 1767. Source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rumney%2C_New_Hampshire
