  • You need to do a tune up, complete with new plugs. It could be anything from a fouled plug to a bad plug wire to a needed adjustment to the carb? Depending on what type of engine and what year. Give more info.
  • perhaps your idle air control aka iac is bad when your throttle is slammed shut small amounts of air pass throgh a small hole in the door of the thottle body to prevent rough idle if that goes bad the pcm basically sends less fuel to the motor making it run rough
  • This used to happen to me and it was something wrong with the carburetor.
  • Actually...I saw this on a Hyundai and it was...get this, the altinator.Check the altinator if its an import, if not take the hose off from the air filter to the intake manifold, spray carburator cleaner into the manifold by holding the butterfly choke opened. Spray about a whole can, then reconnect the hose and turn the key...It will not start right away, but the reaction is verry awesome!!! You will notice better performance and also better gas milage. If this occurs, you should change oil and filter and spark plugs and wires, if you do not have wires then spark plugs will do.If this helps you at all let me know and I can walk you through step by step!
  • Definitely need more info, possible idle speed set too low?
  • timing is probably off
  • Year, make, Model, Engine.......................The most likely cause is a bad EGR valve. If you know where it is whack it gently with a hammer. If the idle straightens out, that's it..You can clean it but it usually doesn't last..Replace it.....Had to edit, forgot something...Check all vaccuum hoses for cracks or disconnects..
  • What is the car make model and year?
  • Timing, idle or maybe needs a tune up! Water in the gas or bad gas. Block in the gas line. It could just be it is set in it's ways and wants to stay home! SMILE!
  • rough idling is normally due to an air problem. the main places to look are the breather pipes ( this is were the egr normally goes to), the conduict that goes from throttle to manifold on some fuel injection cars, on carbs check the air jet and on all get a piece of pipe and listen for any hissing from any of the gaskets on the intake manifold and any of the air pipes.
  • i am having the same prob and was told it could be the catalytic converter or the egr valve. and had an oxygen sensor cause the same prob a few years ago.
  • Timing probably. I had a similar problem with my Nissan, it turned out to be air controller thing and $500 bucks.
