Getting involved in careless accidents especially while driving. Don't drink and drive. Hang up and drive. Don't eat and drive. So many morons on the road especially while they are commuting to and from work. Same goes for thoughtless pedestrians. You don't own the right away even though the law says you do. Joe Smoe don't care about you nor is he looking to see if you're there.

Cancer, lung disease, and heart disease are all up there. True, none of them are 100% preventable- but the number of deaths per year could be greatly reduced if people stopped smoking, exercised more, and ate a healthier diet. In the U.S. these are the leading causes of death per year: Heart disease: 654,092 Cancer: 550,270 Stroke (cerebrovascular diseases): 150,147 Chronic lower respiratory diseases: 123,884 Accidents (unintentional injuries): 108,694

Accidents of all types can usually be prevented with a little more care given to the surroundings of people and auto accidents leads this cause of death. Wearing seat belts, driving the posted speed limit, paying attention to what you are doing, and not using intoxicants like alcohol or drugs, and not driving while sleepy are only a few things we can do to cut the death rate in auto accidents dramatically.

In the developed world the most common cause of death overall is coronary heart disease. This is preventable with simple management and prompt treatmnent if necessary. However, worldwide, by far the biggest preventable cause of death, which nobody has actually guessed correctly is....diarrhoea. The deaths attributed to diarrhoea number in the millions every single year, far more than any cancer, heart disease or stroke. In fact 1 in every 20 deaths is caused by diarrhoea. Simple and cheap rehydration therapy is all that is needed in the acute setting to prevent death and is far more cheaper than CHD/cancer management, yet because the majority of cases are in Africa and the like with poor infrastructure and healthcare systems, millions die every year.
