I dunno if I can explain 'exactly' but I figure 2 ppl will see the same thing, perhaps a movie, magazine ad, or whatever. This inspires both people to do the same thing in their own work.

I read somewhere that there are actually only 4 or 5 stories and that they get told over and over again with only the details changing. For example the "Rags-to-riches" story, the "Redemption" story, and the "Love" story. Further to your question, there are also stock, archetype characters that occur over and over again like in pantomime where the same characters e.g. Scaramouche, Columbine etc. occur in every play. Nothing is really new under the sun. Pantomime: "The colorful shows were extremely popular, and the largely illiterate audiences came to expect and even looked forward to seeing familiar characters and their behaviors. These characters became "stock" types. No matter where a play was being performed, or who was playing the part, each particular character always wore a mask typical of his "type", and behaved according to his "type"." http://www.collectorcafe.com/article_archive.asp?article=110&id=1726
