  • Just what DID we go in there for? Saddam and all his attendants are dead.
  • This is a tricky question. I totally see your point, but since I don't agree with the war, I already believe the soldiers died in vain.
  • Once the soldiers are dead, it doesn't matter whether they died in vain, out of vain, or beside vain. They took the risk that comes with the job. Soldiers overwhelmingly join for their own reasons, not to conquer terrorism. That's not an inhumane observation; I knew when I was there that I wasn't fighting for right or wrong necessarily, but to hold up my end of the bargain (ie, contract). Continuing the fight means that more soldiers will die for the unwinnable cause. To stay and fight until hundreds of thousands more soldiers and Iraqi civilians are dead just to "accomplish the mission" is absurd.
  • I am afraid that the longer we stay, will be that many more which will be lost in vain.
  • No, but it would plunge Iraq into a civil war that would last for years and would end with either a dictatorship or with Iraq being completely overtaken by another nation. And no to be picky but it's vain; vein is used for tubes that bring the blood to your heart and for veins of ore.
  • In a way yes. I'm in two minds about whether the war was a good idea or not, and I agree with the other answer in asking "what exactly did we go in for?" But - Iraq is currently on the verge of civil war, the rule of law has all but broken down, and considering that's at least partly due to the American/ British invasion and regime change, I think we have a responsibility to at least help things get back on track rather than just pull out and leave it in the mess it's in. However, there does need to be a constructive diplomatic plan about what is going to be done about Iraq - just throwing troops at a problem doesn't solve it.
  • I wish they would be released to their families. This Iraque BS needs to stop! Violence doesn't resolve with violence. I feel for all of them, considering they will be messed up for a long time!
  • Why did we go there? What have we accomplished? How many soldiers and civilians on both sides -- all sides -- have died needlessly already? Our government has declared a War on Terror. That's vague, unspecific, doesn't name an enemy and has no reasonable conclusion. We fight until all terrorists on the planet are gone? It's much like the war on drugs; it's an on-going campaign, not an actual war. The logic that we should keep fighting until we win or run out of young men and women makes no sense. That's a whole campaign in vain. I say at least save the lives we can and bring our troops home.
