Confused, crazy, bored and very stupid.

because they may be slightly imbalanced and felt like they were on a mission or they were hearing voices in there heads. I am thinking of all those lives that were cut short by this tradgey,my thougts have been with them all day.

They do it for a cause, and it may not be a cause directly relating to the students, but an internal problem with the person himself.

The evidence coming out seems to indicate that the shooter was unbalanced. Simply relocating to a new country is enough to set someone on edge, if they are shy already. Then, coping with all the differences, operating in a language not your own (even though you might speak it well: it is still a burden to speak constantly in another language-my experience as a quadrilingual), operating in a culture not your own, and then having a relationship melt-down...it was a combination of things that just came together to create horror. I am not saying this to get sympathy for the shooter: just understanding for how such things come about.

The news is depicting him as a loner and was also on depression medication. The guy was obviously troubled and really could not socialize well with others, what drives someone to this I have no real idea. It seems that, this was maybe his way at getting back at whoever might have caused his disconnection to the world and also his depression. My heart goes out to the families and friends of the victims.

This is a tragic situation where a depressed unstable person has flipped. What cause the final action we will probably never know. What i waould like to know is if reports are correct and this student was a fourth year South Korean non national. Why was he allowed to buy the Glock 9mm, with which he killed 32 young people and destroyed hundreds of people in their families and friends. It is truly something that I do not understand at all. or are we getting incorrect reports?

Sh** happens. It's not about gun control or security or mental illness. Bad things happen sometimes ...

There is not a logical explanation for it. I just read this, hope it shades some light on the subject:http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070417/ap_on_re_us/virginia_tech_shooting

There is a factor in this horror story that may enlighten as to what was so horribly wrong with this deranged killer. The parents are dry cleaners, PERC used in dry cleaning is a potent neurotoxin, and look at this study published in February: Schizophr Res. 2007 Feb;90(1-3):251-4. Epub 2006 Nov 17. Links Tetrachloroethylene exposure and risk of schizophrenia: offspring of dry cleaners in a population birth cohort, preliminary findings.Perrin MC, Opler MG, Harlap S, Harkavy-Friedman J, Kleinhaus K, Nahon D, Fennig S, Susser ES, Malaspina D. Department of Epidemiology, Mailman School of Public Health, Columbia University, New York, New York, 10032, USA. mcp20@columbia.edu Tetrachloroethylene is a solvent used in dry cleaning with reported neurotoxic effects. Using proportional hazard methods, we examined the relationship between parental occupation as a dry cleaner and risk for schizophrenia in a prospective population-based cohort of 88,829 offspring born in Jerusalem from 1964 through 1976, followed from birth to age 21-33 years. Of 144 offspring whose parents were dry cleaners, 4 developed schizophrenia. We observed an increased incidence of schizophrenia in offspring of parents who were dry cleaners (RR=3.4, 95% CI, 1.3-9.2, p=0.01). Tetrachloroethylene exposure warrants further investigation as a risk factor for schizophrenia. What are you talking about the young man had lived in America for almost a decade. the young man was clearly isolated, alienated and depressed, cut off from society in his own head. he clearly had developed a mental illness and lost control. some people find this hard to understand but i don't understand you. i hate elemants of the media who refer to this guy as evil, twisted and sick. what people are missing is the incompetance and negligence of the authorities and the university. the main killer was the fact that society let everyone down. that is the sadest thing.

It seems to me that the gunman was very depressed, messed in the head, and he just despised humanity. I also heard that he was like comparing himself to Jesus or something. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cho_Seung-hui
