Nobody knew it was going to happen. I am not sure there was anything anyone could have done or said to prevent this disturbed person from doing all the shooting and killing.

I'd say Gun Control, but then all the NRA members would inundate their representatives. Take a look at the number of deaths in industrialized nations and compare it to the US. Numbers don't lie.

i don't know if something like this can be prevented unless he'd told someone that he was going to do it.

The fact of the matter is is that someone who is in the state of mind to do such a thing probably couldn't be reasoned with. It's a terrible thing to have happened, and I was glad to find that my many high school classmates to go there are OK.

There's not really much anyone, especially me, could have done. I do know that people, even middle school kids, are encouraged (or were being encouraged, I don't know how popular this is now) to attack a dangerous person like that in a do-or-die attempt to stop him. I've never liked the sound of that, personally.

Well, if there is another Virginia Tech, the students should be informed of the situation AFTER the first shooting... they shouldn't become informed after students are dead!

If I was the shooter's friend or knew him I would have tried to get him into mental counseling somehow;as soon as I felt the first chilling vibes that he was capable of murdering someone I would act. I suspect he was a loner though, and there was no one who recognized the signs of a very sick individual.

We talked about it, and I wonder if people were just in suck a state of shock, that they didn't know what to do. I heard that he stopped in one class and reloaded after shooting a couple people in it, so I wonder why no one tried to take him down while he was reloading? Makes me feel better about having some mace in my purse.

They should have locked the students down after the first shooting regardless. instead of thinking they should have reacted. they should have had cameras in all the dorm halls Hellooooooooo the Ra could have seen the shooter and may have saved his own life. and sirens or horns could have blasted out warnings. this might have scared him off. this is the age of technology at the #1 Engineering school. get your cameras, horns, sirens, text messages, emails, etc Great question

It was actually 32, and I don't think anyone could have done anything, unless they had a squad of people with guns.

I would've given people their right to bear arms. That way someone could have shot that bastard in the face, instead of being a defenseless sitting duck. I wouldn't have locked down the building. When the crisis started the security system locked down the building, trapping a lot of people inside. They had to break windows to get out. I would've told the police that it was their duty to protect and serve the people. Can you believe those cowards waited outside for 3 hours and as the shots rang out? It was their duty to storm that building immediately! We don't pay you pussies to sit around while kids get executed! What the hell is wrong with you people?!
