  • Pretty sure I could do it and I have done it without having to read a manual!!
  • Who rings for help for a flat tire? Of course, I'd change it, isn't that what everyone does?
  • I could do it blindfolded. I even change my own oil. Does that make your head spin and smoke come out of your ears?
  • I've changed a flat tire even when I had a cell phone, was in a well-traveled area, and was only a short walk from my home. I can change my own oil and air filter. I've jump-started cars and I can drive stick. Got any other stereotypes?
  • i could! although, i'm less familiar with my current vehicle. however, i have had to change a flat, out in the middle of nowhere, in a ditch (in a field), with the crappy jack that came with the damned truck! the truck was in the ditch at the least advantageous angle, too!!! i have mad skills though; what can i say?
  • Back in the late 80's I had a blowout and I was wearing a dress and heels and could not get the lug nuts loosened. Along came a nice man who did it for me. I guess the site of me made him feel pity. With the current car I have there is so much crap in the trunk, it would take ten minutes to dig my way to the spare tire. After that, I would be exhausted and pass out.
  • I would love to see my wife change a flat tire. I can tell you that she'd rather wait for an hour for me to get there than risk getting her hands and clothes dirty. Then I'd have to hear about it the rest of the night. She'd call all her friends, sisters and parents on how she changed her first tire. You'd thought she discovered a cure for cancer with all the excitement surrounding the momentous occasion.
  • im only 18 and have done more things to my car then most guys my age. I changed tires, oil, the routers, the brakes NUMEROUS times, all the lights (including dash and brights, as well as brake and turning signals), the battery, gave and recieved many jumps, the belt, the starter...i can go on and on...mind you this was all done in the past two years on my car. all the stuff i got myself and done myself (its cheaper then having a mechanic do it) ive been stranded on highways, dirt roads, intersections, a red light...just about everywhere...yes i have had help but still alot of the work i have done myself.
  • I changed quite a few flats, rotate my own tires, change my own oil and belts, and I used to adjust my own clutch until my car with the cable clutch died. And just in case you are wondering, I'm not a "Tomboy" and no one would ever classify me as masculine no matter how you stretched the interpretation. But I do have to admit I know a lot of women who can't or won't do these things and very few who will. Then again, my own husband used to take his car to get the oil changed until we met. So what does that mean... How about a poll of how many men change their own oil?
  • I can change my tires, oil, brakes-pads and rotors, hoses, belts and thermostat. When I was in high school I took a class called service station operator, we did all that stuff and more. Twenty-two years later I am glad I can do that stuff.
  • I haven't done it, but if the tools and a manual was there, i would have no probs!
  • My dad was a mechanic & owned a junk yard. He tought me how to do all that stuff before I got my lic. Change a tire, check the oil & all the fluids. Change head lights, brake lights ect. However working at convience store for the past 13 years has tought me how many men & woman don't know how to do that. I have seen men that I have had to show where the oil stick was & how to put washer fluid in. There has been numerous times I've had to show men how to pump gas, that totally amazed me. And a couple of woman. This one woman that comes to mind had a very nice sports car & came in & was so proud of herself. She said that was the first time she had ever pumped her own gas. Her daddy & hubby would always fill the cars up before she got in them. She was in her late 30's. I praised her, I said next step we'll teach ya how to check the oil, lol. And not to sound sexist but my husband whose 3 years older then I am & worked for the airforce(6 years) maintaincing government vehicles didn't know that you needed to check the oil in a lawnmower. I had to show him this last week as well as get it started because he didn't know how to prime it & adjust the choke.( my head felt so big) It was the first time we started the mower this year. GIRL POWER meowww!!!!
  • Of course. I can even change out the transmission. Once, I changed a tire for my boyfriend in college. Sexist!
  • No - would probably fall at the first hurdle and would opt for either shafting the car wheels by driving it until I found a phone (albeit slowly) or would get out and walk. It's not sexist to ask and since you are, I have zero interest in looking at the car manual for anything other than the code for the radio. There, I've said it.
  • Yes I think I could do it if I really had to ,as long as I had rubber gloves so my hands did not get tooooooo dirty and I did not break a nail.
  • easily. just as easy as a man, if that's what your asking, but you seem nice on the comments.so if this is an honest question, i'll give you the benefit of the doubt. if people think that women can't well maybe that's because society expects them not to be able to, which i think is sad and cruel.
  • Went to school to be a mechanic. id change a flat faster than any man...test me. lol.
  • Wow, I have to admit that I did not know there were men who still thought of us as helpless. Not that that's bad or anything, you at least asked instead of assuming. I can change my tires and my oil. I can get my car unstuck from the snow and the mud and never panic if the car should happen to go into a spin in winter. I also have changed the oil on several motorcycles. My father would not let me take shop. He said that when I hit high-school that it was "time to start acting like a lady" It was a bit to late because he is the one that taught me all these things, as well as how to build a deck (and just about anything else that requires wood), minor sheet rock repair, change out a bad switch or outlet, spot weld, shoot, spit, swear, throw a punch, stand up for myself, fix antique clocks, adjust the spokes on my bicycle, change out the tubes on a bicycle, use almost all the tools you can find on This Old House, and so on and so forth... These days we do it all and still manage to look damn good in high heels ;) +4
