  • I was one of thousands (just in the USA) in about 1993-5, who got scammed by some Canadians selling "investment grade emeralds." You paid them, they shipped you the stones that were appraised far higher. I did get the stones, but I paid $19,000 for 3 stones worth about $7500. I sold them for $7000, the scammers never got caught to my knowledge, and I learned a lesson. The money went to the Caymen Islands. Some people I found out, from the FBI who were after these people, had invested as much as $75-150,000 on these emeralds. Doctors, and other "educated people." I felt like a fool, but learned a good lesson.
  • Aside from sending money in for a tennis racquet necklace as a kid and then for some Paul Newman Foods merchandise as an adult and getting nothing in return, I really can't say I got scammed. There is always tomorrow though, when anyone one of us can be a victim of identity theft.
