Oh, I forgot. I live in one of the neighborhoods that would be considered bad based on demographics (about 30% white) and being poor. However, after living here a couple of years I remain feeling secure enough to walk around, including at night. The same goes for my wife who is not bothered for being white.
Butttt... we are about 5 blocks from "drug alley", where it is definitely dangerous.

Thanks for responding :) I wondered because it only made sense to me to be led where it would be safer, but I had no idea how they actually gathered their info other than statistics. I don't know how statistics in of themselves would be racist if there were simply stated, 'crime is higher here'. I guess the fact we don't know why they recommend a route makes me curious. They could even be taking us along a route that has better shopping, for all I know lol!!

The only problem I have with the statistics is, if that article is true, they are not basing it only on crime statistics. Throwing in race is a bad plan. I think that safety statistics should solely be based on crime rate.
