Our HOA recently made a rule that renters can not have a pet, although
owners were always allowed to have pets? Can the HOA do this?

    Double check the CC&Rs and Bylaws and consult an attorney. More and more HOAs are coming up with rules designed to penalize tenants. In most instances these rules cannot be enforced, and are often illegal in and of themselves.

    If you are the tenant, be sure to review your Lease Agreement as well, to ensure compliance. Tenants may be evicted for failure to follow the LANDLORD's "no pet" rule.
