AVG is supposed to be good...and it's free.

I switched to McAfee. The price is more than competitive and I'm considerably more satisfied. It updates have been less interuptive and it seems to eat far less memory.

I like Webroot. I never get anything malicious on my computer and it uses far less resources than Norton. The only time you notice it running is when you click on a site known for spyware and viruses, it gives you a warning.

I use Viper. It's effective and doesn't hog a lot of memory.

    ANYTHING is better than norton.

You would have to pay me to install norton on a computer. And then I would throw that computer in the garbage and buy a new one with the money.

Norton is bad. Really bad. It's always been bad and it probably always will be bad. It's slow, it's spammy, it's crashy, and it doesn't even stop the viruses.

I recommend Avira with the "buy the full version" reminder disabled. It's a fast scanner, and unlike Norton, it will actually find, prevent, and remove viruses.

AVG was one pretty good but it got too popular and now it's bloated and slow. Still better than norton but I wouldn't recommend it.

I have used the free versions of AVG and Avast which I downloaded from cnet.

They did a fabulous job on my old computers. My new laptops have Windows7 OS and I am using Microsoft Security Essentials and its doing a great job .

Almost all are, and some of the good ones are free: AVG, & Avira just to name a couple. And they don't use as much memory.

good luck.... norton has woven itself into every part of your OS... when my norton expired it crashed me to the point of requiring total reinstall. I will never youch norton again. I am presently about 4 months running without AV software.

AVG has become bloatware. Microsoft's offering is very good:
