Dogs become aggressive out of fear. If he is not properlly socialized, he will lash out at other people or animals. The best way to curb this is with behavior modification. Take your dog to obedience classes and he will learn his position in life. This is a great bonding experience and it also helps you establish alpha which int urn makes your dog relax, he doesn't have to take that position anymore. The main thing to remember is a dog who knows a lot of commands considered this a job, and a dog with a job is a happy dog! Another thing to take into consideration is where your dog is meeting other dogs. Is it in aneutral place (dog park, walks, friends house)? Some dogs are very territorial and if they feel threatened in their environment or feel that you are threatened they can lash out.

Another thing is leash aggression. If your dog is on a leash it will automatically feel tense, keep a slack leash, and remember your dog can feel every thing through this leash. The minute you tense up, your dog feels that. Try to stay relaxed and calm when your dog is being introduced to another dog. Use lots of happy words; good boy, nice, etc... If your dog is getting tense, watch for body signals, remember that a wagging tail doesn't always mean a happy dog. If he gets tense, simply and calmly walk away and praise your dog when he walks away with no incident. Agressive behavior will feed aggressive behavior. So if you are shaming and hitting your dog for acting out, it will feed his aggression.

Get a dog trainer, or simply muzzle the darn thing!
