I'm in Salt Lake right now, and I just noticed a lot of different symbols on the outside of the Temple such as the big dipper and like two hands shaking. What do they represent?

The big dipper is an Astronomical arrangement it symbolises, The Heavens & their order.

The Hands shaking, Symbolises Fellowship & friendship, the hand was offered to others in Acient times to show they were not holding a weapon and that there was no hostility between men of different tribes.

There are no Secret or hidden meanings Symbolism is a Major part of Human Understanding & Knowledge...If they were Secret why would they be displayed outside?

Look around you, Symbols are everywhere!

    EVERY organisation has its symbols.
Cars have symbols on their Hoods,Your TV, your CellPhone, your Clothing!
Look at your computer screen its all just a bunch of symbols.

This writting it just a bunch of Symbols that have order, the difference is you have learnt that order & you can understand what each one means. This is a fundimental Universal way of teaching.

Numbers are the True Universal Language that all people can use & understand.

    1+1=2

What you are looking at is simply a series of 0's & 1's in order Like a Matrix
the key, is understanding & interpretation.

But you dont believe me cause all you see is the written word on the screen!

Are you really in Salt Lake?
    .
And when you say you "just noticed" these symbols, aren't you the least little bit concerned that someone will recall the similar questions you have asked about them in the past and call you a liar?

Mister IT is trying to Liahona outta here

    SHORT ANSWER:
    Here you go: http://www.mazeministry.com/mormonism/whited/eastweb/index.htm

    LONG ANSWER:
    They are Masonic Symbols.

Both Joseph Smith and Joseph Smith were Freemasons and the LdS Temple Ceremony and system is rooted in Freemasonry. Therefore, you will find a smattering of symbols from from Freemasonry on the temples built under their direction from the Nauvoo period onward.

However, the modern temple built today downplay - or simply eliminate - any of these symbols as they have been a point of contention for Mormon Critics throughout Mormon History.

BTW, Freemasonry is rooted in Kaballah which is rooted in the occult.

You could become a convert and maybe find out. I wouldn't though.

Yeah I noticed those same things myself when I was there.

I find it interesting that Mormons make a big deal about not having a cross.

They are Masonic Symobls that have been used by the LDS Church. You will also find them all around 'historic' Salt Lake - some of them are easy to spot and others are sometimes a little ordinary to pick up on - like the beehive and the upside-down star. The second prophet and president of the LDS Church, Brigham Young was a Mason - on many photo's of him you will see him wearing a badge depicting the well known masonic symbol - the square and the compass - these are the symbols (along with the rule) that are found on temple garments.
