In which states is it illegal to have your front driver and passenger windows tinted?

    Each state has different regulations regarding whether front windows can be tinted (or what percentage tint can be used). When the state law allows tinting of front windows, it's often limited to 70% light transmission (70% of light must pass through the tint). If the back window is tinted, there may also be regulations that require a side mirror on the passenger side.     The answer does vary from state to state. Here in Florida the legal limit for front side windows is 28%, but that's not the case everywhere.

    Window tint laws, incidentally, exist for officer safety reasons. When an officer approaches a vehicle, he needs to be able to see the occupant inside for his own safety.
