    Professionally Researched. (What's this?)

Water hardness is a measure of salts found in a given water supply. Aquarium fish generally do best in water that has a hardness level of between 8 and 16 dH, which are the degree of hardness units. Fish living outside their hardness comfort zone will be stressed and may easily succumb to illness.
