Quite honestly, I don't even think of points any more. When I see a question that interests me or I have an opinion on..I answer it. Most of the time I enjoy reading the answers of others more. :-)

I really enjoy using my brain and thinking outside the box and helping people sort out troubles or understand people like me better by sharing my own experiences.

1) To help others because doing so makes me feel good. It's a win-win situation. 2) Answering questions helps to satisfy my obsessive compulsion to write. Plus, it's a great way to develop and hone your writing skills. 3) I don't write answers for points, but I'd be lying if I claimed that what points represent - the approval of others - is meaningless. Getting uprated = positive reinforcement. It's normal and healthy to want that and enjoy it when it comes your way. But points just for points sake ARE meaningless. I asked and answered questions under another ID for a year and a half when Answerbag used a pointless ratings system.
