I don't mean to make "light" of this serious question but for years I've had an impediment which I've slowly improved upon through the years to the point that it's seldom embarrassing any more: What I do is open my mouth and speak at times when it would be better for me to remain silent.

    Yours Truly,

No, I do not. But recently I attended a professional conference where the keynote speaker was an international renowned expert in the field, who is a highly respected academic and has published hundreds of articles and dozens of books based upon research. I have been an admirer of his work for decades. I was extremely surprised to find that he stammered and stuttered many times during his talk. My point being, who cares if you have a speech impediment? It has nothing to do with your intellect or your abilities. Don't let it hold you back from accomplishing whatever you want and becoming foremost in your area of interest.

No, I do not have. But I do know someone who has a speech impediment. She was my classmate at freshman in high school. I can still remember how often she was teased by the class, and in some occasions even by teachers. Back then, every time she speaks, someone would repeat what she had said, and then everyone will start making fun of it and laugh.

And yet never did I see her cry or get mad. She went through with the jokes and didn't blame anybody. She accepted the fact that she speaks that way and people somehow find it comical. She adapted to their rude behavior. And because she was the kindest and most cheerful person in the room, she became close with the whole class.

Everyone, well, didn't really stop teasing her at the end, but it became a special way for them to show how important she is to our class.

Yes, if affected her life... in a good way, that is.

Sometimes I will rapidly repeat the same word, especially if I am reading something outloud. I've taken some blows to my head when I was a child, and I destroyed alot of neurons in my brain by drinking and drugging, but thank God I am getting better and better and most people wouldn't even recognize I have a problem.

Actually, I might. The way I talk does affect me . . . negatively, at times.
