Is it safe to use a laxative during pregnancy, and if so, which one should I get? Never had to use a laxative before, so I'm clueless!

It should be perfectly safe as long as you don't overdo it. laxatives can become addictive where you become physically dependent on them so use them sparingly. Enemas or glycerin suppositories might work better if you don;t want to risk swallowing them because they can be harsh. Glycerin was alwaysmy first choice when the going got.. err tough..Mineral oil, while it tastes really crappy works wonders and isn't to habit forming and it's dirt cheap. Ask friends what laxatives they have taken if you feel comfortable asking. You might find someone will tell you than brand x will feel like you're ass is on fire so avoid it..
I've had years experience with laxatives being a former heroin addict.. Narcotics, opiates especially are very constipating.. Never been pregnant though and if i ever do I'll be an instant billionaire and hell yes i would turn MY kid into an ATM machine being a 53 yr old man. ;)

I know what you mean about narcotics being constipating! My doctor put me on Oxycodone for a time to treat my Fibromyalgia, and there were times I would go days without... well... you know! It depends on the type of laxative as some are absorbed by the digestive system which means that your baby will also feel the effect of the laxitive which is not a good thing. You need to discuss this with your midwife or doctor.

I'm being flip but, did it ever occur to you to READ the warnings that come with the laxative?

- Nope. Never had to buy a laxitive before in my life (as I already mentioned). Did it ever occur to you not to bother answering a question if you don't have an answer?

- Ok, you're an idiot! Why the hell would I read the package if I have never had to buy it before in my entire life? What am I going to do? Walk around the drug store reading all the labels in the off chance that I might have to use that product someday? You don't know me, so don't make judgments that just end up making you look foolish. Get a life, and stop wasting your time making "flip" remarks to people. I would never attack you, if you had a legitimate question. That's what this site is all about; people have questions, and if someone has the information, they go ahead and answer it. I'm so sick of jerks like you who think it's safe to talk down to people from the other side of a computer screen, whereas if we were standing face to face, I doubt you would be acting like that. It's time common courtesy was extended on the internet as well. there's just too many people out there that think it's ok to be maliciously rude to others because it doesn't seem like they’re interacting with a human being from behind the computer. In real life, we're all just decent, kind people, all doing our best, working hard to provide loving, nurturing homes for our families. I'm done arguing about this with you, as it was not my main purpose in posting this question in the first place. Have a nice life.
