I am sorry, but I am afraid you are out of a gameboy. It can not be fixed. There has been problems like this alot. When it was plugged in there was likely a surge or something wrong with the power in your home. This is why there is a surge protector on the new gameboy DS. So like I said you are out of a gameboy.

Like the other answer said there was probobally a surge. Also the new nintendo DS does have a surge protector built in and other fetures to keep it from breaking, they are well worth more than they are sold for.

If it is purely the main board that has expired, you could swap the board for another. Buy an SP cheap on ebay, one that has a smashed / cracked screen. You could then simply swap the board. A realatively cheap way to fix the unit.

It's possible that something burned out- did it make any strange sounds or behave abnormally before it "went black during gameplay"? A wire might have just come off inside- but that seems fishy because then something specifically would stop working or it wouldnt work with the batteries instead of totally going dead. My guess is that something developed a short in it
