I'm 15 and my boyfriend is 17, soon to be 18. My parents are very overprotective and have sworn to call the cops, but we're not having sex. Is it legal for us to date in the state of Oregon?

Yes, it is legal for you to date, but it is also legal for your parents to restrict your activities.

It is illegal for either of you to have sex. However, most states tend not to prosecute if both parties are a minor. Though you may not want to test your luck seeing that your parents are overprotective and your boyfriend is soon to be 18.

It should be noted that any sexual contact is equally illegal in Oregon for both you and your boyfriend (as long as he 17).

As for other conduct besides sex, it is a misdemeanor in Oregon to have "sexual contact" with a minor. Sexual contact is defined as: "any touching of the sexual or other intimate parts of a person or causing such person to touch the sexual or other intimate parts of the actor for the purpose of arousing or gratifying the sexual desire of either party." I did a quick search and found no case law to suggest that the lips are an "intimate" part of the body. Thus, it appears that kissing is completely legal.

There are no laws against "dating". However, there ARE laws regarding minors having sex with somone of age. So technically, it is legal for you to be dating, but not having sex. Just make sure it stays that way!

It's legal for you to date, but it's not legal for him to touch you in a sexual or intimate way. Even something as seemingly innocent as a kiss could potentially land him in prison, and having to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life.

You're a minor. If your parents say you can't see this guy, then that's exactly what you need to do. They've already said they'll call the cops, do you really want to put your boyfriend's future in jeopardy?

Stay away from him until you're of legal age, which is 18 in the state of Oregon.

It does not just boil down to sex, if you kiss, fondle, touch the breasts, or inner thigh, these are chargable actions also! Please keep this in mind!

I cannot believe some of these answers. Will somebody please tell me that it ISN'T against the law for these two kids to spend time together, even if that does involve kissing, cuddling and touching. I just cannot believe that it could be a criminal offence. Of course they should be told in no uncertain terms that it would be illegal, and possibly damaging to his future, if they have intercourse; but going out on dates, having a kiss? I can't believe how anybody can hold these opinions.

Zandra, I'm sure you know what is right and what isn't and you really do need to know just how much trouble your boyfriend could end up in if you have sex before you're 18 - it is 18 in Oregon, I checked. I wish you good luck and good sense.

No it is not illegal for you to date! Most people will assume you are sexually involved, but that does not have to be the case!!! If asked by anyone if you are having sex, just say no, no matter the outcome of your relationship!!!!! I met my wife when she was 15, I was 21, we have two children and we both graduated from college, and been happy for the most part!!!!

So long as your parents have said "no" dating him is illegal. So is any touching between you even kissing. It's violation of parental rights and gross impossition of a minor. Plus if you sneak off to be with him he'll get charged with kidnapping. On top of that I seriously doubt that an 18 year old has no intentions of having sexual relations of any kind with a girl he's dating. In fact I think he picked you just because of your age. You're what we call easy prey. He likes you because you're easy to lead and lie too.

You say your parents are "very overprotective." Why? Have you given them reason to distrust you? There must be some reason why they don't trust HIM. He's almost three years older than you. Maybe they know he's been sleeping with other girls. If you don't know FOR SURE that he has not, then you'd better do as your parents say.

no...its stagatory if he does touch you...and knowing most kids your age, chances are you already have...if he gets caught it is 70 months in Snake River prison...that is the answer to your question, and it is a fact. Measure 11 is no joke...first time offenders right away to prison. be careful.

Honey, go for it. Don't have sex because that would put him behind bars but don't let him go over something like this. I started going out with my fiance when I was 15 too. And what do you know? he was 17 as well. Now we are only 11 days away from getting married. We still haven't had sex because were saving it for the wedding night. After waiting 4 years you might as well. but don't let your parents control your life. You should respect their opinions. Their your parents, they only want what's best for you. I told my mom flat out that If she even tried to do something like that I would run away and never speak to her again. If I would have let her say that me and my soon to be husband couldn't be together, I would have missed out on the best gift God has ever given me. Just be careful and remember that this life is your own.
