How many knives should a person be allowed to own? How many children should a person be allowed to have? How many cigarettes should a person be allowed to smoke per day?
The answer is "as many as they want", that's why soldiers and sailors fight for freedom.

As many as they want to have, but a huge amount of guns needs to be locked up in a safe. As you wouldn't want the house to be robbed and some horrible crime grpup walking away with a gazillion guns.I think over three or four guns to have out for personal protection and the others better be locked up.

The real question is, how many guns should the government be allowed to own? Surely not more than the governed.

However many they want. A person can only use one at a time anyway. Would you fear a neighbor twice as much if he doubled his gun supply?
As one answerer proffered just lock them up good! That and I think training should be paramount. We had (different groups of friends - my step dad and others) Agr8 deal of fun in the day...taking all kinds of weapons to the high country and simply target shooting all day long some fruits and vegetables can's you name it My Step dad was big game as well so he could site in his rifles...and we had a 'blast' ! We took it slow and when I was young I was taught safety ...over and over. And I was a damn good shot
We'd clean EVERY single thing we took up, Rambled ,,,
Responsibility is key. Too many backwoods, untrained, loose cannons ; making the
rest look bad ,,, along with crooks, thieves, Gangs...
    Good Q!

A North American Candadian, American should be by law as in our soverign right to buy as many guns as he/she can afford to put bullets into to them, we are not from europe and we are not from the middle east in the back country we are guaranteed to run into Bears and North American big game. Hand guns should be limited to .44 mag, .357, .454 mag. Semi autos 9mm and smaller cals should be banned.

If they hunt they should be allowed to own the amount of rifles it would take to do the job. Nobody should be allowed to own a handgun.

Allowed? Are you currently a legal resident of the United States of America? Read the Declaration of Independence, it's actually pretty short once you get used to the vernacular. I am not giving you the exact place where you will find the answer, a little homework will do you good.

I don't know. How much do you want the government coming into your home and searching it to be sure of how many guns you have?

Rights do not come from government. Rights come from God. Government cannot "allow" you to have guns, or a specific number of guns. Government can only take that right away from you. If the government takes the right to have more than a certain amount of something away from you, then the government is also going to have to take your right to privacy so that they can enforce that limit on your rights. How much do you want government bureaucrats or police poking around in your home to enforce that limit on your rights? Meantime, who do you think they will be more successful enforcing that limit upon, law-abiding citizens or criminals? And what kind of government tries to enforce such a limit, just governments or tyrants? And which kind of government has reason to want to deprive citizens of guns, just governments or tyrants? The founders knew that tyrants want disarmed citizens. That was why they recognized our right to bear arms.
