  • Unless it has some special coating for the purpose, glass by itself does not affect or block UV; it goes right through with the visible light and infra-red. It's the UV that causes items sitting by a window to fade.
  • Normal glass will block the majority of UV rays, although it requires an additional coating to achieve a near-perfect score. Sitting behind clear glass is probably more effective than suntan lotion, but like using suntan lotion, you can still get burned if you really try at it.
