  • How do you know if the eggs are fertile or not? Did you candle them? If you're judging by the fact that some eggs hatched, then you should know that its common to have some eggs in a clutch hatch and other eggs in a clutch to fail for a variety of reasons. If you don't know how to candle eggs, posts at this forum tell you how to candle budgie eggs with a flashlight. Candling refers to the process of shining a light on an egg so that you can see evidence of developing embryos in fertile eggs. http://www.talkbudgies.com/showthread.php?t=2102 http://www.talkbudgies.com/showthread.php?t=5249 This article on breeding budgies includes information on reasons why some eggs fail to hatch, as well as other egg problems such as infertile eggs. http://www.budgieplace.com/breeding.html This article also has excellent information and photos on budgie care and breeding, including common problems. http://www.freewebs.com/parakeet~breeder/feedingandbreeding.htm
  • If they are 4 days overdue, then they are not going to hatch. They could have been infertile and never developed or they could have gotten a chill or stopped developing for some reason. SOmetimes the chick is too weak to make it out and just dies.
