Given a few star systems worth of resources and a large enough power and cooling system, a station like the death star would be possible, however the weapons systems required to destroy something the size of a planet would be too vast to be practical as well as having to shield itself from the effects of destroying the gravitational effects of the planet in question would be too draining to be able to accomplish both. While I believe the station itself could exist, it would have to be expendable and shutdown for a while after using it's massive weapons in order to power it's shields thereby making it fairly vulnerable to smaller attacks.

Right now, no. In the future it would be, however very unlikely that we ever will. Too expensive. We're talking trillions upon trillions of $$$$$
