  • An ion air purifier emits a negative electrical charge in the air causing it to be attracted to dust particles and other indoor pollutants. When a negative and positive ion bond, the pollutant can no longer float in the air so it either lands on the floor or it gets collected by the purifier. This is part of the reason why the air outdoors feels so fresh and clean right after a thunderstorm. All of the lighting negatively charges the air causing the pollutants to no longer be airborne. Ions are not harmful to anyone. An ion is simply an incomplete atom or an atom that has gained an electrical charge as a result of losing electrons. Dust, smoke, pollen, etc. floats in the air because these pollutants contain positively charged ions that are continously being repelled from one and other. They eventually land on the floor or other objects once it finds a negatively charged ion to bond to. The ion air purifier simply speeds up this process.
