Intermountain Healthcare began operating in 1975 when the company took over operations of 15 hospitals originally founded by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. As of 2009, the company operated 23 hospitals and employed 32,000 people in Utah and southeastern Idaho.
