    Great Answer

    Professionally Researched. (What's this?)

Atlantis was a legendary city, believed to have sunk into the ocean in one day, that first came to be in the Plato dialogues, "Timaeus" and "Critias." General intrigue about whether or not Atlantis actually existed, and where its remnants lie under the ocean, only started taking root in the public consciousness in modern times, according to the book "Greek Mythography in the Roman World."

Only in a lot of folks imagination - including Plato's. In reality the story is most likely referring to the destruction of the dominant civilization in the Mediterranean at the time - the Minoans - who abruptly came to a quick end around circa 1470 BCE. The rulers of the Medditeranain sea for around 1600 years and then just vanished. The smoking gun is the island of Santorini - or what is left of it. Santorini is a volcanic island that dramatically exploded circa the summer of 1470 BCE. What I've read about and seen on TV says that once Santorini exploded the Minaons were devastated and thier enemies and longtime rivals saw thier chance and moved in for the kill. No one can say for sure but they were supposed to be a very emlighten society. It's known that they had city-wide plumbing going to every house, with clean water going into the kitchens & baths, and the sewage going out in a separate system, as we do today. I've also heard that they were peaceful - knowing what I do about mankind - and even benevolent societies, I find that hard to swallow. It was thier enemies and rivals that moved in at their time of worst need - not friends wanting to help.

    short answer: maybe
did the city of atlantis as told by plato exist, who knows but it is possible that the legand is based in some fact, remember it's not the only civilization to meet a quick and violent end.

Yes, many of the ancient ruins already discovered actually came from Atlantis, but those who don't recognize Atlantis think they came from somewhere else.

Yes it was! The greatest toy makers in the world lived there til the ice age. That's when the Earth's axis changed and it drifted south and the area all froze up. I hear that some fat guy who built a toy factory lives there now.
