Which band/artist has had the most #1 hits? How many?

It's amazing how little research any of you have done on this. The Beatles or Elvis weren't even close to having the most # 1's of any genre, whether a group or solo artist.

George Strait has the most now (54), surpassing Conway Twitty's long-held record of 50 # 1's

It depends on what genre. I'm guessing the Beatles- in rock.

All these boneheads that mention George Strait are idiots. While many country artists have had #1 hits on the hot 100, George Strait has never had a single ONE. They are only talking about segmenting a specific music genre when mentioning George Strait, in his case the Country music charts. So while having the #1 children's music, gospel music, hillbilly music, new age music (I think you're getting the picture) is nice, it's not even close to being on the same level as the most popular song in America!

So the intelligent responders correctly listed "The Beatles" with 20. As far as solo artists it depends on who you ask, as Elvis may have 17 or 18 depending on how you calculate the hits. Elvis with 18 would then be in a tie with Mariah Carey whom also has had 18 #1 hits.

So Woodie can talk about her Georgie Straight & Connie Tweetybird with her amazing research & maybe some day someone will send her a quarter so she can buy herself a clue!

The band with the most #1 hits of all time has more then the Beatles, Elvis, and the Rolling Stones combined! They were a Motown band called The Funk Brothers.

Today's artists, like Mariah, really don't count. As great as she is, and she is great, the competition is simply not there. Back when the Beatles and Elvis did their things, music was so much more important to the American landscape. Today, music isn't even top-5 in terms of cultural influence. "No. 1" just 'aint what it used to be!

It is George Strait, I believe he is now at 53 number 1 hits. You gotta love country music.
