    Professionally Researched. (What's this?)

Although believed to be named for the characters in the movie, "It's a Wonderful Life," Bert and Ernie are not named for anyone. According to Jon Stone, a "Sesame Street" writer, muppet creator Jim Henson decided that the puppets simply looked like a Bert and an Ernie.
