Was the reference to the drug LSD in the song "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds" deliberate?

    The official story is that John Lennon's son came home with a painting he described as "Lucy in the sky with diamonds", Lucy being a girl in his class. But, of course, artists never seem to like to admit drug references (though, The Beatles "Gett[ing] high with a little help from [their] friends" seems to preclude them from wanting them to distance themselves from drugs) and you cam think what you like.

    Lennon never admitted it was on purpose but McCartney said it was on purpose a couple of years ago. I think it was probably deliberate. The lyrics of the song seem obviously inspired by a trip so... it's quite a coincidence that the initials of the song are LSD.
