Chihuahua's food lasts quite awhile. I buy a Medium bag of Iams dog food it's like $5.00 a bag. It last for a couple months. And not all chihuahua's are "yappy", only if you do not know how to train or handle them. They are an amazing breed!

Well just buy a a bag of any dry food, like Iams, its like 7 dollars and lasts like 2 months. really if you dont want to pay alot for food, a small dog like a chihuahua is great. They dont eat alot. They are great dogs. People who say they are yappy or aggresive are idiots who probaly got one and trained it terriby, then they blaimed the breed. Or they read nonsense some idiot who doesnt know what they are talking about put on the internet. qthey are very loyal and dont need alot of excersize. They love to warm so in the winter a nice coat they would enjoy...hey you might as well make it fashionable. dont get clothing tho that covers their arms. they dont like that. Athey love to snuggle up with you or under a blanket. During the day they may want to sleep near you but i wouldnt advise you to let hime or her sleep with you at night. You want to be the leader and if you let them as a pup, they wont sleep anywhere else. They can be difficult to housetrain but i had no problem. I found that it is good to get your puppy in the summer. Then to housetrain it, for the first 2 weeks you have him or her, keep her in a crate, and only let her out, outside. they are overall great dogs and i think you'll have lots of funn with yours like i have with mine!

I had a chihuahua for 15 years. He was a wonderful little dog. He was smart, cuddly, obedient and was not a "yapper". As for food, they don't require large amounts. A small bag will probably last quite a while. Chihuahua's make good family dogs,if they are handled by all members of the family If not, I found that they become attatched to one person. They are brave little dogs, mine used to chase a Great Dane, that lived next door! They are very protective of their owners. They are a good choice, if you haven't got lots of space,ie apartment, mobile home etc. They still require exercise, even if they are active in the house. If you decide to get one,I'm sure you won't be dissapointed.

Chihuahuas love to "mole". Which means they love to crawl inside soft things. I sometimes let my Teacup Chi sleep with me,and she will immediately 'mole' her way under my blankets and sleep. But on the occasion I don't let her sleep in my bed, I made her a special 'house' in her sleeping area. Take 2 pillow cases, fill them lightly with soft stuffing and then sew them together on 3 sides-- leaving an opening on one end for the dog to crawl in. He/she will stay nestled in there and keep warm. Chi's get cold very easy.My dog loves her little 'house'. If the 'house' gets dirty, I just toss it in the washer.Being in a hard plastic crate is not to their liking. They want to 'burrow' in something soft and cozy.I also made a window sill perch, and she'll sit in the window like a cat and watch everything outside. She also loves to bask in the sunshine too.

My 5 year old Teacup Chihuahua is the most loyal dog I've ever owned. They are extremely intelligent. I can teach her a new trick in 10-15 minutes and she will remember it. She is not yappy, but does bark if she hears a car approaching the driveway or someone walking on the property. It's amazing how she can hear a possum walking in the yard at night, that's when she'll whine for me to let her out. I don't think she would ever bite another animal, because she just chases them off the property to the fence. If I had to point out one thing of most importance, I would say, socialize your new Chi. Let it learn to be around those people in your life and get used to new people. Their memories are fantastic.
They will remember everything that they are exposed to. As smart as they are though, for some reason, housebreaking them can be a little difficult. But stay with it and let or take them out often. Especially when they are puppies.

My chihuahua is the most loyal and affectionate dog I've ever owned.
Not sure about costs. She likes wet food and one big can will last her 2-4 days.
